Side By Side Theatre & Music
Side by Side Theatre & Music is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 2001, initially with the goal of keeping Summer Chorus funded when K-State needed to close the program.
Flint Hills Masterworks Chorale is now a program of Side by Side.
A new program of Side by Side is The Actors Theatre, now offering theatrical presentations e.g. at retirement homes as a community service.
We also offer video recordings of school presentations.
Other programs of Side by Side:
Summer Chorus presents shorter works and more varied music that has included e.g. PDQ Bach, a Beatles medley and a Cole Porter medley. In 2024, nearly 50 singers performed in the group, the largest since 2001. The choir performed at Meadowlark Hills retirement community.
Conductors have included Reg Pittman and Pamela Kempton. Pianists have included Bill Wingfield, Amanda Arrington and SongHwa Chae.
Konza Carollers is a small group that typically performs seasonal music at retirement homes, in particular Meadowlark and Via Christi, and the hospital.
For eight years, from 1997 to 2005, Side by Side organized an annual “from scratch” performance of Handel’s Messiah, with a chorus of community members and K-State students and faculty singing the solos.
